Having already brought The Walking Dead and DC/Vertigo's Fables to pixelated life, video game company Telltale Games today revealed that it is turning its attentions toward Westeros, with the announcement of a new episodic game based on HBO's Game of Thrones series
The series is based on the HBO program but will take advantage of the book series' fiction as well, Telltale Games said. The studio did not mention potential platforms, nor which characters or even time period the series will focus on.
Though the gameplay will be largely familiar to fans of Telltale adventures, it wouldn't be Game of Thrones without massive battles, Telltale said
In 2012 developer Cyanide and US publisher Atlus released a Game of Thrones title, receiving mostly negative reviews. Online specialist Bigpoint is also working its own virtual take on TV series, with its free-to-play MMORPG Game of Thrones: Seven Kingdoms. It released its first trailer in July.Telltale Games is also working on a new Borderlands spin-off, Tales from the Borderlands, in collaboration with Gearbox Software, the studio confirmed at VGX
The episodic Game of Thrones project Telltale is working on is planned to continue for several yearRumours of the fantasy-themed collaboration surfaced last month, though were confirmed this weekend at the VGX Awards. Now, an accompanying press release has shed more light on what to expect. The project is decribed as a "multi-year, multi-title partnership between Telltale and HBO Global Licensing, targeted to premiere digitally in 2014 with an episodic game series for home consoles, PC/Mac, and mobile devices.
